WHITE OUT 2008
I flew home to PA this weekend for WHITE OUT 2008. After plane delays I finally made it Saturday around noon. I was supposed to get in Friday evening so I could stop by and visit by Mom's parents in Holidaysburg on Saturday morning but that didn't happen. So Brandon and I drove straight up to State College. We hit the campus, grabbed some PSU swag, and ate a breakfast dinner at Ye Old College Diner...
...and you can't go to the diner and not get a grilled sticky.
So...on to the game. In case you don't know...WHITE OUT...or any "color" out was started by the Penn State student section and then moved stadium wide and then nation wide as almost every school now has a "color" out. So, against Ilinois the eighth largest crowd at Beaver Stadium (109, 626) joined together in WHITE. It was a night game so the all white looked even more amazing.
The slight rain didn't stop us beating the Illinois to go 5-0 and end up #6 in the BCS Poll. Here's a video I found of the stadium singing in the rain to CCR.

And yes, ESPN ranked PSU the best student section in college football!
I had to fly back to TN Sunday evening so I was barely in PA 24 hours, but that was enough time to get some love from Texas and Tenne.

Oh yeah...I thought this was funny...
Four Days of Fun Fourth of July 08
Last year’s 4th of July sucked for me. This year I got to spend it with family. And it was a killer time. Brandon and Sam, plus the dogs Texas and Tenne, came down and stayed with me for 4 days starting on Thursday. Their friends Veronica and Johannah came too. It was amazing coming home to dogs at the house for the first time in over a year. I loved watching them run around inside and outside in the yard. Even thought Tenne is only 8lbs she’s got the heart and energy of a dog atleast twice her size. I spent the first day mostly poolside with a PBR in hand. The result was getting some serious redness on my shoulders. But before that started I did secure a new place to live. It’s gonna be weird going from the house to a 1 bedroom apartment. Anyways, we then headed down to the Saucer in the evening and enjoyed a few rounds. Friday was the 4th so we spent more time poolside, though Brandon and I had to take some shelter due to the redness the day before, and then cooked out some brats on my camping stove. I’m used to cooking them on the grill but in a skillet on a camping stove wasn’t too bad. We then headed to downtown Franklin for their festivities. We met up with Sara and Emmy and grabbed some pints at McCreary’s and then watched the fireworks from the top of a parking garage. Since Brandon was in town we just had to go to Pancake Pantry Saturday morning for breakfast. Caribbean pancakes are the way to go. In the evening we met up with the Boer’s and Jackson’s for dinner at Wild Wasabi followed by some fancy mojitos at Lime. Sunday was time for worship at Grace Center followed by an afternoon of Guitar Hero 3 for Brandon and I. We ended the evening with pints and appetizers at Jonathan’s. In all, it was a GREAT time. I only wish Brandon and Sam lived down here. Here’s to hoping.
Smarter than a 4th grader

I went back to school today...back to 4th grade. My sister in-law Samantha is a 4th grade teacher at a school in Harrisburg. So this afternoon I went in and helped her out. As soon as I walked in I started helping a girl with a math assignment, which was probably something I should not have done. It took me a while to remember perimeter and area. So I’m pretty sure there are some 4th graders smarter than me when it comes to math. I was then introduced as the “other” Mr. Moist. I then re-worked some of her bulletin boards about classroom behavior. I even got to walk the kids out for a fire drill, do you remember those? I finished the day off by reading them some short stories, one of which was called The Stinky Cheese Man. In all it was a lot of fun but I don’t know how Sam does it. She’s great with the kids and has an amazing sense of how to communicate and to them at that age.
Tonite we grabbed dinner and drinks at the new Lancaster Brewing Company that opened up in H-burg. Their mirco-brew sampler is really good and includes beers called Strawberry Wheat, Amish Four Grain, Milk Stout, and the Hop Hog. Brandon and Sam then went to go see Horton Hears A Who while Greg King and I went and saw The Bank Job. Tomorrow is the official celebration of Sam’s birthday and the plans are for Hibachi in Hollywood...I’ll explain in the next post...
Basketball & soccer
Yes...you saw it right...Penn State upset #17 Indiana yesterday in men’s basketball. And we did it without our best player. I wish I would have gone to the game since I’m so close. But tonight I got to see Brandon and his church basketball team play as well as see Sam play some indoor soccer. Unfortunately, I must have been a bad omen by being at the games. They both lost. The crazy thing was that Brandon’s team was 18-2 going into the 1 game elimination playoffs tonight and had beaten this team before. And the team Sam played tonight hadn’t won a game yet. So even though PSU won yesterday, the winning spirit didn’t make its way down to Harrisburg. Buzzkill. But it was cool to see so many old friends at Brandon’s game like Lance & Jill and their sons Will & Evan, Greg King, and Steve Rasmus and his family. Good times all around.
And cuz I love ‘em so much...here’s some more pics of the pooches.
Pictures and pooches in PA

Woke up at 8am this morning after going to bed at 2am. It happened because a certain shih-tzu jumped up on the bed and welcomed me back by sticking her tongue in my ear. Had one of the coolest conversations with my Dad. Perhaps one of the most honest and just “real” convos we have ever had. Got lunch at good ol’ Lio’s pizza in Lingelstown. You can’t beat 2 slices and a coke for $3. Had my first 4-way video iChat with Eddy, Jay, and Brewster. Talked music and festivals. Grabbed dinner at Fire Alley. Drank Sam Adam’s White Ale for the first time and loved it. Took some funny pictures. Watched the Apple March 6 event.
