Yes you read that right. One of my 30 Day Challenges this year will consist of going vegetarian for a whole month. And it starts tomorrow. Quite the opposite of my first 30 Day Challenge two years ago. This time Sara is joining me which will be nice to have a partner in crime. I've already completed 2 photo a day challenges this year by posting a picture every day on Instagram with a pre-selected subject. But this is a whole new area. Eggs are fair game so I know I'll have that to get my protein in the morning. We have aleady been loving the veggie deLITE pizza from Papa Murphy's (tip: substitute artichokes for the mushrooms). But I'm just hoping we don't overdo it on chips and cheese or bread.

I've written about the subject of working with a team of people I admire and trust before. This song and the album it comes from is no different. Though this time around I worked with 2 people for the very first time.

First off, the band wrote some incredible songs. The most personal of their career. Paul Moak was the perfect producer for the current state of the band and the songs they had written. Each song and all of it's parts were tracked the same day which created a different recording process for the band then previous projects as they were all together every day. Paul was easily an honorary 5th member. When it came time to mix the songs, we hired J.R. McNeely again. Hands down he was the perfect mix engineer as he was able to balance out the rawness of the production but also capture the vision that Paul and the band had for the way they wanted the songs to sound. Brad Blackwood at Euphonic Masters did an incredible job mastering the album by making the loud moments loud and quiet moments quiet.

When it came time to capture the visual aspect of this song for a music video, Nathan Corrona at Dustbrand Films was my first choice. All I told him was that I wanted the video to be in black & white and to be completely performance based. And he delivered that perfectly.

Colin, the drummer in the band, created the single and album covers. So once again, I hired Josh Fulton to create a lyric video. All I told him was to create something around the single cover as best he could. And he too delivered perfectly. Look for his work in an upcoming lyric video to the boss tobyMac's new single "Me Without You".

When it comes to my job, there's nothing better than working with a team of people that help you provide a finished project they way you envision it. I hope you enjoy the videos and song as much as I do.

You can download the single at

The new album COLD HARD WANT will be in stores and online July 10.

For 3 years in a row it has happened. There's been an album that I'm late to table on or hearing has released. I always seem to find out about in January or February of the next year. And it ends up being an album I would have had on my year end Top 10 list.

So here they are...

2011 - Butch Walker and the Black Widows "The Spade"

2010 - Francis and the Lights "It'll Be Better"

2009 - The Heavy "The House That Dirt Built"
This one really frustrates me because I had their previous album in my Top 10 of 2008.

Anyways...maybe this year it won't happen.

Drinking With Strangers: Lessons Learned From A Teenage Bullet Belt by Butch Walker - The most entertaining read since Sammy Hagar's RED. I now know the real meaning of my job title.

Breaking Bad - I'm not sure what took me so long to watch this show. But I'm so glad I'm watching it now. I just finished season 3 last week. Other than Homeland, this is the most intense and stressful show I have ever watched.

Spotify's Rolling Stone Recommends app - I heard a stat that 63% of all listens on Spotify come from playlists. It's mostly how I listen. And now I'm able listen to Bono's Top David Bowie Songs or Tom Petty's Top Elvis Songs without having to create the playlist myself in my iTunes.

ROAST, Inc - My new favorite Nashville coffee.

Van Halen "A Different Kind of Truth" - This album truly rocks. The only missteps were picking "Tattoo" as the 1st single and not having Michael Anthony back in the band.

Jeremy Spring of Abandon Kansas stopped by TVU in December at the end of his third "house show tour" dubbed The Living Room Tour 3. TVU decided to bring in fans and record a show at their studios creating a "storytellers" vibe. This was done all on their own, without the aid or request of a record label. This was done because of the love they have for the band. Yes it's almost an hour long but I urge you to play the video and just listen as some Abandon Kansas songs take on a life of their own when stripped down. Not to mention I feel confident Jeremy will make you laugh as well as think during the interview and storytelling.
