I can’t express enough how excited I am for the new Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers album “MOJO” to be released next week. But if you follow me on Twitter then you might have an idea of how excited I am. It’s artists and albums like this that make me feel like a teenager again as I anticipate its release and eat up everything that is released in advance to promote it. It’s artists and albums like this that remove me from my job in the music industry but also help fuel the passion for my job in the music industry. This might be an early and bold statement but “Something Good Coming” might just be my song of the year. I love “I Should Have Known It” but I really connect with the lyrics and melody to this song. And if you haven’t seen the MOJO documentary directed by Sam Jones then please do below.

In case you don’t know who Sam Jones is, he is the guy who directed the Wilco documentary “I Am Trying To Break Your Heart” and has numerous magazine covers to his resume including many kick ass covers for Rolling Stone.

I’m normally not a huge fan of female fronted music. The Cardigans have been my ultimate favorite (since I can’t count Fleetwood Mac because Lindsey Buckingham sings too). I loved the last Brooke Fraser and Metric albums. But I really liked the song “Apologies” on the last Grace Potter and the Nocturnals album 3 years ago and have been a fan since. This song and the new self-tited album it’s from releases June 8. If you share this new video on your Facebook page you can get mp3 for FREE. Also, check out this killer performance on Ellen yesterday…because when the video reaches 2:45 you’ll hear exactly why it’s killer.

I try not to pimp out bands I work with too much from my site or from my Twitter account unlike so many of my friends in the biz. But when it comes to Abandon Kansas I have to spread the word when I can because I am extremely proud to be working with these guys and I feel their music and work goes unnoticed.

As I wrote in back in July I’m glad I could have my friends Mark Lee Townsend, JR McNeely, Ethan Luck, and Eddy Boer help me create an EP that sounded and looked amazing. So when the time came to shoot a video I was excited that I could reach out to Nathan Corrona again and ask him to direct a video for their song “Close Your Eyes”. My only direction was to have some or all of the video in black & white to keep the marketing consistent with that of the EP cover. The above video is the result and I am extremely proud of it. Ok, time to get off my soapbox.

I first heard this song a few months ago on this Barcadi commercial. I then saw a performance of the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live! I was hooked. But still, after watching the music video, I feel the best way to see/hear the song for the first time is watching a live performance of it (sorry, I couldn’t find the Kimmel video).

Download the song at or for FREE at Green Label Sound.

PS: In case you feel like you have heard a song similar to this in another TV spot you are right. Their song “Good Ol’ Fashion Nightmare” is being used in the spots for the new show “Community“.
