No Line On The Horizon

I'm really enjoying the new U2 album. I know there are plenty out there that don't like it but I feel they are in the minority. I will be honest and say that the first single "Get On Your Boots" didn't do anything for me for a while. Mostly because I couldn't stand the line "sexy boots...get on your boots" but I love the riff throughout and the bridge breakdown with "let me in the sound". But any worries I had because the first single didn't hit like "Beautiful Day" or "Vertigo" were laid to rest when my pre-ordered "box set" was sitting on my desk when I arrived to work Tuesday morning. After a few listens I realized there were much stronger songs musically ("Stand Up Comedy") and songs lyrically ("Magnificent") that I really connected to. And like so many others, it's what I have been spinning in my iTunes and in my car almost all week. It's a strong album, not as memorable as "All That You Can't Leave Behind" or "The Joshua Tree" but it's a solid album and one that will make my Top 10 of 2009 for sure. So for those who don't like it...I'll take what you think is a bad U2 album over one of your new scene bands album any day.

I was born to sing for you. I didn’t have a choice but to lift you up. And sing whatever song you wanted me to. I give you back my voice. From the womb my first cry. It was a joyful noise. - Magnificent

Update: Sometimes someone else says it best. Rolling Stone recently said this about the new album and I couldn't agree more. "(No Line On The Horizon) fuses the spiritual uplift of their Eighties work with the future-shock sonics of their Nineties albums."
